Head of Sales – Timber & Construction Supplies
Location: Oxford, United Kingdom
Salary: £51,000 per annum + Uncapped Commission
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
About the Role
UK Timber Merchants is seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Head of Sales to lead our sales function and drive the next stage of our growth.
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be responsible for developing and executing the company's sales strategy, delivering revenue growth, securing key trade accounts, and building a high-performing sales team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales leader who wants to make a real impact within a fast-growing timber and construction supplies business.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Business Growth
- Develop and implement the company's sales strategy to achieve ambitious growth targets.
- Identify new market opportunities within the timber, construction, landscaping, and building materials sectors.
- Develop annual sales plans, budgets, and revenue forecasts.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth while protecting profit margins.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and customer demand to identify commercial opportunities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing sales team.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor Sales Executives as the business grows.
- Set individual and team KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.

Business Development & Key Accounts
- Generate new business opportunities across the UK.
- Build long-term relationships with contractors, developers, builders, joinery companies, merchants, landscapers, and trade customers.
- Personally manage the company's largest and most strategic customer accounts.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and secure high-value contracts.
- Maximise repeat business and long-term customer retention.
Commercial Performance
- Take ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Produce accurate sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and performance analysis.
- Monitor sales KPIs, conversion rates, and profitability.
- Ensure CRM records and reporting are accurate and up to date.
- Continuously improve sales processes, customer experience, and team performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Directors to drive commercial growth and identify new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure excellent customer service and efficient order fulfilment.
- Support marketing initiatives, product launches, and lead generation campaigns.
- Help develop scalable sales processes and systems as the business continues to grow.
Essential
- Minimum 7 years' experience in B2B sales, business development, or account management.
- Minimum 3 years' experience leading or managing a sales team.
- Proven track record of delivering consistent revenue growth and exceeding sales targets.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
- Experience developing and implementing successful sales strategies.
- Commercially minded with strong financial awareness and business acumen.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable
- Experience within the timber, construction, builders' merchant, or building materials industry.
- Existing network of contractors, developers, builders, merchants, or trade customers.
- Knowledge of timber products and construction materials.
- Experience building or scaling a sales function within a growing business.
