Head of School, TPP RECRUITMENT
Head of School - Computing
An exciting opportunity has arisen within a University, due to an internal promotion.
This is a full-time, 6-month appointment to provide senior leadership cover while a permanent recruitment process is underway. As Head of School - Computing (within the College of Science and Engineering), the role requires:
- A regular on-site presence with a minimum of 3 days per week on campus.
- Strategic leadership to shape the School’s direction, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, market-relevant programmes aligned with wider institutional priorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the College Senior Management Team, driving institutional priorities and KPIs.
- Lead the development and positioning of the School’s academic portfolio, ensuring it is innovative, demand-led, and future-focused.
- Drive excellence in teaching, learning, and student experience, aligning with sector metrics (TEF, NSS, REF).
- Inspire and lead academic and professional services teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Oversee research, scholarship, and knowledge exchange, strengthening the School’s external impact and reputation.
- Manage financial performance, resource planning, and income generation.
- Develop and maintain external partnerships, including industry links and collaborative provision.
- Use data and insight to drive performance, student recruitment, and improvement.
- Lead change and enhancement initiatives, reviewing structures, processes, and ways of working.

About You
We’re seeking candidates who can demonstrate:
- Significant senior leadership experience within higher education, ideally at Head of School/Department or Associate Dean level.
- A doctorate in a relevant discipline and a strong academic background in Computing or a related STEM field.
- Proven track record in leading high-performing teams and delivering through others.
- Experience in driving quality in teaching, research, and student outcomes, aligned to TEF, REF, and NSS frameworks.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial management, including budget responsibility.
- Experience in leading change, performance management, and organisational improvement initiatives.
- Excellence in stakeholder engagement, with the ability to influence across complex environments.
- A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, focusing on innovation, continuous improvement, and impact.
