Head of Scientific Advisory – UK & Ireland

A Day Where Science Shapes Beauty, One Claim at a Time

About the Role

At L’Oréal, we’re not just building brands—we’re reshaping how the world experiences beauty. As the Head of Scientific Advisory for the UK & Ireland, you’ll be the strategic voice of science across the Group, bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and compelling consumer-facing notices. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team of scientific advisors, ensuring every claim is scientifically robust, legally sound, and market-ready.

This is an opportunity to influence beauty at scale, from product development to regulatory submissions and press launches. If you thrive at the intersection of science, leadership, and storytelling, this might be the headline role you’ve been searching for.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Scientific Strategy & Team Excellence

  • Motivate and guide a team of scientific advisors, fostering a culture of transparency and excellence.
  • Ensure consistent, high-calibre review of all scientific claims, in-house content, and brand communications.
  • Champion knowledge-sharing to elevate the Group’s global scientific credibility.

2. Uphold Claim Integrity & Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee the validation of all product efficacy and usage claims, from packaging and advertising to digital campaigns.
  • Act as the technical gatekeeper, ensuring claims are both compelling and compliant with UK/EU regulatory standards (e.g., Advertising Standards Authority, UK Cosmetics Regulation).
  • Manage submissions to advertising authorities, safeguarding L’Oréal’s scientific reputation.

3. Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Collaborate closely with Brand, Legal, and Corporate Affairs teams to harmonise science with marketing, legal, and commercial goals.
  • Provide strategic scientific support across all product categories, from skincare to haircare.
  • Represent L’Oréal as the technical authority at industry events, press launches, and regulatory discussions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

4. Champion Science with Impact

  • Translate complex research into clear, persuasive language for non-scientific audiences, from brand marketers to policymakers.
  • Influence consumer trust by ensuring all scientific messaging is honest, ethical, and impactful.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a strong-willed yet collaborative leader who can navigate ambiguity, inspire teams, and turn scientific rigor into market-winning narratives. Here’s what success looks like:

Technical Expertise & Scientific Rigour

  • A proven track record in the cosmetics, pharma, or regulated consumer goods industry (5+ years in a technical/scientific consulting or leadership role).
  • Deep expertise in ingredient efficacy, claim substantiation, and regulatory compliance (preferably within UK/EU cosmetics or TLC [Truth-in-Labelling Campaign] standards).
  • Ability to scrutinise data, substantiate claims, and challenge assumptions—whether by pulling apart a competitor’s advertising or refining a new brand’s science story.

Leadership & Stakeholder Influence

  • Diplomatic and influential, adept at managing diverse stakeholders (legal teams, creative agencies, regulatory bodies) with confidence and tact.
  • A natural bridge-builder, able to align disparate teams (R&D, Marketing, Legal) around shared scientific objectives.

Clear & Compelling Communication

  • Unmatched ability to distil science into stories—whether drafting a claimed marketing claim or debating with press, regulators, or internal criticism.
  • Comfortable speaking at high-level forums (e.g., Cosmetics Europe, FSA, press televisions) as the voice of science.
