Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

We currently have employees working across four nations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’re in a privileged position to be able to deliver our ambitious new strategy, . There are huge challenges facing bowel cancer patients across the UK and our community needs us now more than ever. We’re building a strong and united team to bring us closer to a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.

Job Summary

The Head of Strategic Communications, Campaigns and Brand is a pivotal role, responsible for driving a coherent charity-wide communications approach based on the needs of our audiences. You’ll build and leverage the power of our brand to increase awareness, prompt action, drive income and create deeper and more meaningful connections so that more people affected by bowel cancer can find the support they need, and together we can achieve our vision of a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer, sooner.

This role will drive the foundations for organisational growth: a bold and confident brand voice, identity and messaging that cuts through and ensures bowel cancer gets the attention and support it deserves; a joined-up communications planning approach that gives us collective focus and ensures that everything we do and say is based on audience insight and supports our strategic goals; and the development of compelling campaigns, stories and content that bring our community together to create an unstoppable force for change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of Bowel Cancer UK's brand strategy, creating a confident and compelling brand that increases awareness, engagement and support for our cause.
  • Drive a joined-up, audience-led communications approach across the charity, ensuring campaigns, content and messaging are aligned with organisational priorities and deliver maximum impact.
  • Oversee the development of high-profile campaigns, storytelling and creative content that inspire action, strengthen our reputation and bring our mission to life.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team covering brand, campaigns, content and strategic communications, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Use audience insight, data and lived experience to shape strategy, evaluate impact and create the conditions for organisational growth and income generation.
