Head of Supply Chain Operations

Location: Govan or Scotstoun; Glasgow – range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements available

Salary: Circa £100,000 plus executive benefits

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and deliver the end-to-end Supply Chain operations strategy, driving optimisation across:

    • Warehousing
    • Logistics
    • Inventory Management
    • Supply Chain Demand Planning
  • Material & Contract Strategy: Govern raw materials and service contract strategies while integrating with procurement’s Shared Services.

  • Health & Safety: Champion the highest H&S standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal requirements.

  • Operational Excellence: Lead streamlined flow of materials, aligning raw material availability with supply demand. Drive continuous innovation in warehouse and logistical operations, including:

    • Capacity planning
    • Network scaling
    • Third-party logistics (3PL) governance
  • Demand Management: Establish robust Supply Chain demand forecasting practices, improving alignment with:

    • Integrated Business Planning (IBP)
    • Production requirements

  • Cost & Performance: Develop financial frameworks with KPIs (cost, delivery, quality, service) and accountability for budget management. Implement value-creation through:

    • Best practice adoption (internal/external)
    • Data-driven optimisation
  • Resilience & Risk: Proactively identify and mitigate Supply Chain risks, ensuring continuity for mission-critical programmes.

  • Team & Stakeholder Leadership: Inspire and grow a diverse, high-performing team while collaborating with senior stakeholders from:

    • Operations
    • Procurement
    • Programmes
    • Executive leadership

Essential Requirements

  • End-to-End Leadership: Proven experience in Supply Chain operations leadership, particularly within defence, manufacturing, or aerospace environments.
  • ** বিশেষ expertise in:** Warehousing, logistics, inventory, and Supply Chain demand management at scale.
  • Logistics mastery: Hands-on experience in transport, distribution, and 3PL provider management, including performance and governance.
  • Transformation & Optimisation: Strong track record in operational performance improvement and cost, service, and efficiency optimisations.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for data-driven decision-making.
  • Financial acumen: Budget ownership, cost optimisation, and working capital management expertise.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Ability to influence cross-functionally with senior leaders to align operations with long-term objectives.

Influencing Environment

This role is part of BAE Systems’ Supply Chain Director-led function, supporting:

  • Procurement
  • Planning & Programme Supply Chains

The team will cover Warehousing, Logistics, Materials, Supply Chain Demand, and Transport, with five direct reports, and will scale leadership over time. Collaboration with:

  • Manufacturing
  • Operations
  • Programme teams

drives impact across high-profile, real-world missions.
