Head of Tax - Banking Group
Head of Tax – UK Bank (Senior Leadership Role)
A leading UK bank is seeking an outstanding Head of Tax to lead its tax function and shape the strategic direction of the organisation’s tax agenda. This is a highly visible leadership role with influence across the Executive Committee (ExCo) and responsibility for maintaining a strong, collaborative relationship with HMRC.
The Role
As Head of Tax, you will:
- Lead and develop a senior, high-performing tax team across all areas of UK taxation
- Advise the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), ExCo, and Board on tax strategy, risk, governance, and regulatory developments
- Oversee corporate tax, operational taxes, VAT, transfer pricing and tax reporting
- Drive a proactive approach to tax risk management and ensure a robust control environment
- Represent the bank in key engagements with HMRC, industry bodies, and external advisers
- Provide commercial, solutions-focused tax input into strategic projects, transactions, and product initiatives

Experience Required
- Extensive UK corporate tax experience gained within a major bank or large, complex financial services group
- Proven leadership of a senior tax team, with the gravitas to set direction and influence at executive level
- Strong track record of advising C-suite and Board stakeholders on tax strategy, risk, and governance
- Deep understanding of banking products, capital, regulatory frameworks, and the tax technical issues relevant to a UK-regulated bank
- Demonstrable experience in managing HMRC relationship strategy, including resolving complex matters and negotiating positions
- Broad technical capability across:
- Corporate tax
- Operational taxes
- VAT
- Transfer pricing
- Tax reporting
- Experience operating in a highly regulated environment with a strong focus on risk management and controls
- Professional qualification (CTA, ACA or equivalent) preferred
