The Role
The Head of Technical leads our technical operations at our Malton site – the heart of Sofina Foods Europe.
Home to our abattoir, slaughter, and primary pork production, this is a fast-moving, high-pressure environment where you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining and elevating standards across food safety, quality, and compliance.
You’ll lead a skilled technical and hygiene team, champion best practice across all site operations, and act as a key technical authority for both internal teams and major UK retailers. It’s a highly visible position, offering the opportunity to influence performance at one of Sofina’s most strategically important sites.
This role will be based in Malton 5 days a week.
Your Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll ensure the site delivers best-in-class technical performance and compliance by:
- Leading the Technical and Hygiene functions to deliver exceptional food safety, quality, and audit performance
- Driving continuous improvement in systems, standards, and site culture through proactive engagement and collaboration
- Acting as the lead contact for customer and regulatory audits, ensuring readiness and confidence across all areas
- Supporting operational teams to embed robust technical processes and build accountability for product quality
- Overseeing technical governance across slaughter, primary, and added-value production, ensuring full legal and customer compliance
- Guiding technical strategy for the site, aligned with Sofina’s European standards and long-term business goals

The Ideal Candidate
You’ll be an experienced and influential technical leader who thrives in a high-pace, high-impact manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record in a senior Technical or Head of Technical role within protein manufacturing
- Strong preference for pork sector experience (primary or added value)
- Deep understanding of BRC, retailer, and customer audit requirements
- Experience managing complex technical systems and delivering process improvement
- Demonstrated leadership of large, multi-disciplinary teams
- Food Science or related degree
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance compliance and production efficiency
