Head of Technical Accounting
About the Role
We're transforming our Finance function into a leading practice organisation with scalable processes, high standards of control, and a culture of continuous improvement. As we continue to grow globally and drive innovation across the energy sector, we're looking for an exceptional technical accounting leader to play a pivotal role in shaping our future.
This is a high-profile, strategically important position that sits at the centre of this transformation. You'll be the Group's technical accounting expert, partnering with senior Finance leaders, commercial teams, and external auditors to provide authoritative guidance on complex transactions, acquisitions, and evolving accounting standards. This is a unique opportunity to influence key business decisions, establish best practice across a global group, and build a technical accounting function that will support our growth plans.

- Expert knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and IFRS 3, with proven experience applying complex accounting standards
- Experience within the energy, utilities or commodity trading sector, with a strong understanding of financial instruments, commodity contracts, fair value accounting, and the sector-specific accounting challenges these present
- Excellent management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, prepare robust technical accounting papers and policies, lead discussions with external auditors, and drive consistent accounting standards across a global organisation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
