About the Company
Our client is a leading provider of critical power solutions, supporting some of the world's most demanding mission critical environments across data centres, utilities, renewable energy, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure.
With continued growth across the UK and Europe, they are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Technical Support & Electrical Authority to provide technical leadership, engineering governance, and electrical safety expertise across the business.
This is a senior leadership role combining technical authority, High Voltage governance, engineering support, and team leadership while working closely with Sales, Operations, Commercial, and Project Management to ensure the successful delivery of complex critical power projects.
The Role
As Head of Technical Support & Electrical Authority, you will act as the business's senior technical authority, ensuring all engineering solutions are safe, compliant, and commercially robust.
You will oversee technical governance across the full project lifecycle, support major bids and customer engagements, provide engineering leadership during project delivery, and maintain responsibility for High Voltage safety management and electrical compliance.
This role offers a mixture of strategic leadership and hands-on technical involvement, working across the UK with regular travel throughout Ireland, Europe, and the Nordics.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Act as the senior technical authority across all Critical Power operations.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, policies, and best practices.
- Lead technical governance reviews for major projects and bids.
- Ensure engineered solutions comply with customer requirements, industry standards, and legislation.
- Provide technical oversight from initial concept through to commissioning and project handover.
- Lead engineering risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes and technical standards.

Technical Sales Support
- Support major tenders, bids, and strategic customer opportunities.
- Carry out technical site surveys and feasibility studies.
- Attend customer meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops.
- Review and approve system architecture, equipment selection, and technical proposals.
- Work alongside manufacturers and technology partners to develop innovative solutions.
- Support the sales team in delivering technically compliant and commercially competitive proposals.
Engineering & Project Support
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Support Project Managers and Operations teams throughout project delivery.
- Provide technical leadership during installation, commissioning, and mobilisation activities.
- Lead technical fault investigations and problem-solving.
- Capture lessons learned and implement improvements across future projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
High Voltage Electrical Authority
- Act as the business lead for High Voltage safety and engineering governance.
- Hold or oversee High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP) responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain High Voltage Safety Rules and associated procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and all relevant electrical legislation.
- Review and approve switching schedules, permit to work documentation, and isolation plans.
- Provide technical authority during HV and LV commissioning and energisation activities.
- Conduct electrical safety audits and incident investigations.
- Manage relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs, utility providers, and customer electrical authorities.
- Maintain competency frameworks and authorisation programmes for High Voltage personnel.
Leadership
- Lead and develop the Technical Support team.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop technical professionals.
- Build a culture focused on safety, accountability, and engineering excellence.
- Work closely with senior leaders across Sales, Commercial, Operations, and Project Management.
- Represent the business during customer meetings, technical reviews, and major project discussions.

What We're Looking For
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience within Critical Power, Data Centres, Power Generation, Utilities, or Electrical Infrastructure.
- Proven experience leading engineering, technical support, or project delivery teams.
- Strong knowledge of:
- High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical systems
- UPS systems
- Generator systems
- Synchronisation systems
- Loadbanks
- Power distribution
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Data centre commissioning
- High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP), Authorised Person (AP), or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) qualification.
- Experience supporting technical sales activities and major engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
- Experience delivering projects across Europe.
- Background within mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure and grid-connected power systems.
