Head of Technology at Finisterre

About Finisterre

Born two decades ago from the needs of hardy British surfers, Finisterre creates enduring outdoor wear for an inspired life in and around the ocean. Proudly B Corp certified, we have committed to a deep belief: to make truly exceptional products in a more responsible and transparent way.

Whether based at our cliff-top headquarters in St. Agnes, Cornwall, or in one of our retail locations across the UK, Finisterre is a truly unique brand and career proposition.

Perched a few hundred metres from the crashing Atlantic, our HQ at St. Agnes’ Wheap Kitty Workshops is at the heart of our brand. Here we stay true to our original design ethos of functionality and sustainability, brought to life in an understated style and identity, always remaining committed to product, environment, and people.

As we enter the next exciting stage of global growth, we are on the lookout for talented individuals to join our crew. So, if you are as passionate about the ocean as we are and want to be part of a truly authentic, purpose-led brand—and share our vision to create exceptional products in a responsible way—then we would love to hear from you.

About The Role

We have a great opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced technology leader to join our growing, purpose-led brand. The Head of Technology owns the technology strategy and roadmap for Finisterre, translating commercial and operational priorities into a coherent plan for systems, data, infrastructure, and IT. This is an exciting, hands-on leadership role with broad accountability, spanning ERP, integrations, data, cybersecurity, end-user IT, and other business platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and own the technology roadmap, setting integration standards and the architectural framework within which our systems operate—NetSuite, Shopify, middleware, 3PL, BI tooling, and other platforms across the business.
  • Provide input on the selection, evaluation, and implementation of future technology, ensuring new systems are fit for purpose and integrate coherently with the existing stack.
  • Lead the build of our data infrastructure, including data warehouse, pipelines, and reporting layer, partnering with Finance, Commercial, Product, Marketing, and Operations to ensure output is trusted and used effectively.
  • Create and maintain a company-wide data governance strategy.
  • Stay ahead of the rapidly evolving technology landscape, identifying and evaluating emerging tools and trends (with particular focus on AI and automation) that could improve efficiency, decision-making, and customer experience across Finisterre’s operations.
  • Lead Finisterre’s approach to AI by identifying opportunities for meaningful improvement, evaluating tools, setting governance guardrails, and ensuring adoption aligns with our B Corp values in a pragmatic and ethical way.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Systems & Operations

  • Own the ongoing development and optimisation of NetSuite, managing the ERP partner relationship to drive performance and improve data quality.
  • Manage the outsourced IT provider relationship, ensuring the workplace is properly set up, maintained, and protected, covering areas like end-user computing, devices, network connectivity, identity and access management, and employee onboarding/offboarding across all Finisterre sites.
  • Lead all technology projects end-to-end, from scoping and solution design through to implementation and embedding. Ensure solutions are evaluated for operational viability, commercial soundness, and effective adoption across the business.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance the technology infrastructure.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Take ownership of cybersecurity and data protection as single accountability, maintaining GDPR compliance, overseeing the Data Protection Officer (DPO) relationship, and leading our cyber posture.
  • Maintain the technology risk register, embed necessary controls (change management, access reviews, incident reporting), and ensure they do not slow business operations.

Partners & Budget

  • Manage all external technology partners, from the daily IT provider to ERP, middleware, and platform vendors, holding them to clear Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensuring delivery standards are met, while streamlining where the business justifies it.
  • Lead the Technology & IT budget, providing the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with clear forecasts, cost transparency, and ROI visibility.

Team

  • Build and lead a small, high-performing technology team (currently two Technology Assistants), mentoring and adding in-house capability while keeping operations agile and scaled appropriately for business growth.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders across the business to understand operational challenges, acting as a trusted advisor on systems, data, and process optimization.

What You’ll Bring to Finisterre

  • Significant experience in a technology role, preferably within a multi-channel, consumer-orientated, or e-commerce business.
  • Demonstrated broad technical expertise, offering the ability to challenge partners while maintaining independent judgment to know when “good enough” is acceptable.
  • Practical knowledge of AI—understanding its capabilities and limitations, evaluating tools critically, and guiding the business toward responsible adoption.
  • A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of listening, synthesising perspectives, and constructively challenging those with critical stakeholders, earning trust through credibility rather than authority alone.
  • Hands-on ERP experience; NetSuite and Shopify knowledge is required.
  • A track record of building data infrastructure and effective use of Business Intelligence (BI).
  • Solid grasp of cybersecurity and GDPR compliance.
  • Experience in managing outsourced partners, from negotiating SLAs to running tenders, ensuring vendors meet expectations.
  • Sharply commercially and operationally minded, balancing technology decisions with practical usability—prioritising solutions that simplify daily work and avoid unnecessary complexity.
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on approach, thriving in a lean operation and taking ownership of challenges.
  • Alignment with Finisterre’s values as a B Corp, ensuring sustainability and ethics guide vendor and architecture decisions.
