Salary: Circa £50,000

Location: Home-based with weekly attendance at Marford Mill

Reporting to: Executive Director of Shooting and Operations

Role information

As head of an important and busy department, this role requires inspirational leadership to oversee the planning, direction and management of the association’s training, education and coaching. It involves working closely with country and regional directors, head office teams, external stakeholders and NGOs.

This is a full-time senior position, leading on all aspects of training and education for BASC staff, members and stakeholders.

You will have a proven track record of delivering positive change within a training and/or education environment, and of implementing strategic targets, with the leadership and resilience skills to galvanise a diverse team.

The role requires coordination with all head office, country and regional teams that provide, or are involved in training or education. There is also significant coordination with statutory and non-statutory standard-setting organisations.

The post-holder will report to the executive director of shooting and operations and will have day-to-day management responsibility for a team of staff, as well as contractors and volunteers.

The head of training and education’s responsibilities cut across the organisation; we are looking for a candidate that can:

  • Ensure BASC training and education is fit for purpose today and in the future, delivering a market-leading service that is recognised by all key stakeholders and decision makers. This will involve the ability to plan strategically, review and implement change successfully.
  • Maximise BASC strategic objectives through training and education, providing a key tool to deliver effective self-regulation, compliance and best practice.
  • Lead a diverse team, demonstrating resilience and the ability to foster a culture of collective objectives and teamwork.
  • Lead on the BASC safeguarding policy around training and education delivery, ensuring all events and activities follow BASC standards. Ensure that all training and education coaches, volunteers, contractors and staff represent BASC’s core values and attitudes.
  • Communicate with a broad audience demographic and provide clear guidance, feedback and clarity.
  • Provide a quality customer and member service across the team.
  • Deliver quality assurance mechanisms to a recognised and consistently high standard.
  • Oversee the safekeeping of all shotguns, rifles and ammunition used for training purposes across the organisation, working within the agreed procedures of the BASC registered firearms dealership.
  • Think creatively and identify opportunities, linking back to the department’s core strategy and objectives.
  • Manage a complex budget, ensuring reporting processes are followed, and meet objectives within agreed financial or associated income projections.

Experience

  • Business management or equivalent
  • Relevant experience within the education and or training sector
  • Significant senior experience, ideally within education/teaching
  • Track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams within a specialist field
  • Robust knowledge of governance, policy and statutory requirements
  • Experience and track record in developing and successfully delivering business plans and strategies
  • Experience of working closely with boards, advising and guiding robust decision-making
  • Experience of financial management including forecasting, budget setting and monitoring income and expenditure
  • Experience of risk strategy and management

General requirements

BASC head office is based in Marford Mill, Rossett, with country and regional offices across the UK.

We have an agile working approach, with our core hours being between 8.30 to 5.30, Monday to Friday. We do expect some weekend and out-of-hours working on occasion. Your working hours are stated in your contract of employment.

You are expected to be flexible, agile and willing to undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.
