Head of Transitions - Pension Schemes Onboarding

Head of Transitions - Onboarding Defined Benefit Pension Schemes

Location: Reigate or London (Hybrid - 50%) Contract: Permanent Hours: 35 hours

Purpose

The role is responsible for managing post-transaction services, including all aspects of transitions from contract signing to full data approval and handover. This includes true up, onboarding, and implementation.

Key objectives:

  • Lead the transaction team ensuring continual development of our proposition and capacity to support new business (large and small schemes).
  • Manage the flow of scheme transitions with a focus on optimal outcomes for both business and customers.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and maintain excellent stakeholder management throughout processes.

The role holder will:

  • Collaborate with our Employee Benefit Consultants (EBCs) to ensure clear alignment with processes/procedures.
  • Manage escalations and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work with teams to agree processes and timelines with trustees and internal stakeholders, delivering on client commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Manage the overall transaction team—direct team compliance to meet customer needs, and allocate workloads effectively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Head of Post-Transaction Services to deliver best-in-class service to trustees, EBCs, and interested parties.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure adequate vetting, sign-offs, and processes for accurate data onboarding to deliver member benefits.
  • Point of Contact for Commercial Team: Address transactional queries, client questions, ensuring proper support availability.
  • Relationship Management: Build/maintain relationships with EBC customers and act as the escalation point for issues—keeps stakeholders updated internally.
  • Support: Provide guidance to commercial teams for micros/competitive meetings, insurer placements, and RFIs.
  • Project Management: Oversee transitions until final premium settlements, ensuring trustee satisfaction throughout the process.
  • Delayed Projects: Review data cleanse extensions for projects running behind scheduled timelines.
  • Team Development: Motivate, engage, and provide progression opportunities to support professional growth.
  • Technical Collaboration: Work with development teams to define scope and SMEs, ensuring transition teams leverage new technologies.
  • Reporting: Provide accurate and timely MI for internal committees.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Planning & Organisation: Mastery of scheme transitions and managing multi-task workloads under tight deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy and precision in completing tasks.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of DB pensions and the DB De-risking market essential.
  • Negotiation & Influencing: Ability to drive schemes to conclusion with Trustees and EBCs.
  • Communication: Clarity at all levels, presenting our capabilities externally effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve challenges quickly.
  • Project & Stakeholder Management: Proven experience in large-scale transitions within TPA or DB derisking environments.

Essential Experience:

  • Transition management within DB derisking companies/TPA.
  • At least three years in the UK pensions industry (TPA, consultancy, or wholesale advisorship).

Desirable Experience:

  • Handling larger de-risking transitions.
  • Detailed knowledge of contractual and implementation challenges.
