The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.
BMA House is the headquarters of the British Medical Association (BMA), a stunning Grade II listed venue in the heart of Bloomsbury. This historic London venue provides a backdrop to a whole host of events including conferences, parties, awards ceremonies and meetings. BMA House is one of London's leading sustainable event venues, combining historic elegance with exceptional customer experiences.
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Venues to lead our award-winning venue business during a period of continued growth and development.
The position plays a critical role in supporting the BMA's wider organisational strategy by creating an inclusive environment for members and staff, generating commercial income that contributes to the association's financial sustainability and supporting the organisation's environmental and sustainability goals.
About the role
As the Head of Venues, this role is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the BMA's venue operations, balancing commercial objectives with the organisation's internal requirements. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, suppliers and contractors to ensure the venue remains competitive within a dynamic and evolving market.
You will have overall responsibility for venue operations, financial performance, supplier management, service delivery, compliance and business development, while leading both direct and indirect teams to deliver events throughout the year.
This is a fixed term maternity cover role for up to 12 months and is based on-site at BMA House. It may involve early starts or evening work to support to oversee the delivery of events.
To be successful as the Head of Venues you’ll have:
- Significant leadership experience in venue, hospitality, events or catering management.
- Experience in implementation of business changes or initiatives to drive efficiency and business optimisation.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing large budgets and delivering revenue growth.
- Demonstrable experience managing operational teams in a customer-focused environment.
- Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting and profit and loss accountability.
- Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong negotiation and contract management experience.
- Proven ability to develop business strategies and deliver operational improvements.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to understand and develop marketing programmes and opportunities.
- A strong understanding of sustainability initiatives in an events environment.
- A strong understanding of customer service excellence and client relationship management.
- The ability to identify market trends and translate them into commercial opportunities.
- Hotel, Hospitality or Events Management qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Personal Licence holder.
