Head of Weapon Integration Transformation and Programme Enablers
FCAS & WS5 Weapon Integration Transformation – Technically Influential Role Bristol / Hybrid (2-3 days on-site)
About the Role
An opportunity to lead a critical task group driving the weapons integration transformation across FCAS (Future Combat Air System), including GCAP (Global Combat Air Programme) and Tempest WS5—playing a transformative role in the design of future platforms and system capabilities.
£80,000–£XX,XXX (depending on experience) | Hybrid (2–3 days on-site) | British citizen only (security clearance).
Key Responsibilities
Leading systems design development for airborne weapon integration, supporting the Head of Function and overseeing a multidisciplinary team. You’ll shape progress across critical components, including:

Weapons Integration Transformation (WIT) Strategy
- Deliver end-to-end digital roadmaps, cost/benefit analyses, and validation approaches to transform weapon system design.
- Align understanding with national/international stakeholders, representing UK WIT governance responsibilities and leading international validation efforts.

Swift & Agile Engineering for GCAP/WS5
- Lead technical aspects of WS5 integration, including cyber qualification and shadow clearance validation.
- Drive workshops with regulators (CAA stakeholders, MOD); influence airworthiness standards for next-gen weapon systems.

Secure-by-Design & System Enabler Sponsorship
- Champion infrastructure investment (e.g. high-performance computing, data, secure platforms) in support of weapon integration transformation.
- Act as Sector Applicant for Secure-by-Design assessments; chair security panels on behalf of the Chief Engineer.

Cross-Organisation Leadership
- Line-management and technical coaching for project and security-facing teams (including cyber authority delegations).
- Engage domestic and international stakeholders to drive regulatory and operational change.

What You’ll Bring
A mission-critical combination of technical sophistication and diplomatic influence, ideally aligned with:
Core Skills
- Technical project delivery expertise—successfully delivered complex multi-nation defence programmes (preferably UK, Italian or Japanese partners).
- Experience sponsoring infrastructure at scale (distributed, secure TCP/IP connectivity) to support inherently networked systems.
- Hands-on expertise in weapons system integration or mission design—with knowledge of traditional and digital integration.

- Diplomatic and inclusive with international teams, including contracting, regulatory and military teams.

- Experience working under high-security environments (e.g OAGES, CSRD disclosure requirements).
