The Role
To lead the implementation and delivery of a unified women’s coaching and development system across the entire women’s performance pathway (14–24 years), ensuring coaching practices, environments, and programs reflect Welsh Rugby DNA consistently.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage pathway coaches to deliver high-quality coaching, maintain methodological alignment, and drive continuous improvement across all environments.
- Embed core principles of "How We Coach", "How We Play", and "The Future Welsh Player" into day-to-day coaching practice and player development experiences.
- Oversee the translation of coaching philosophies and frameworks into practical, long-term player development pathways for 14–24-year-old females.
- Collaborate closely with technical and performance teams to ensure seamless integration across national squads, regional programs, and clubs.
- Champion a performance-driven, player-centred culture that balances elite competition requirements with developmental needs.
The Person
Essential Requirements
- Extensive experience in elite coaching and player development environments.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams within high-performance coaching/sport systems.
- Deep understanding of best-practice coaching, learning, and high-performance environments.
- Track record of designing and implementing coaching frameworks across multiple teams, age groups, or sports programs.
- Strength in building alignment and cohesion in complex systems (e.g., bridging gaps between clubs, junior pathways, senior squads, and international teams).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building qualities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate teams in fast-paced environments.
- Strong grasp of demands in elite physiologically and psychologically intense sports like rugby.
- Experience in talent identification/development systems, including tracking, assessment, and long-term talent pipelines.
- Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advocate and influence across multiple stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience in international rugby or elite sport, preferably women’s rugby.
- Background in national governing body (NGB) roles or system-wide sports administration.
- Insight into the Welsh rugby landscape (current structures, challenges, and opportunities).
- Basic proficiency in Welsh, supplemented by an enhanced or at least basic visual test of officership (UK Driver’s License n/a, but intermediate access norms standard).
- Overseen D&I/diversity leadership, advocacy, or cultural change initiatives in sport/educational settings.

WRU Requirements
- Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and digital communication tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholder groups.
