Walkden Vets for Pets is a busy, growing small animal practice in Greater Manchester, undergoing an exciting rebrand and development phase. We’re a team committed to delivering excellent patient and client care, with huge potential for growth and improvement.
This is a leadership opportunity—a chance for a confident, proactive Registered Veterinary Nurse to shape the future of the nursing team and practice. We’re looking for more than just a title: someone who wants to make a visible, positive impact.
The Role
As Head RVN, you’ll take ownership of the nursing team, establishing structure, consistency, and direction in daily clinical operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, supporting, and developing the nursing team
- Building and expanding nurse consults
- Developing Schedule 3 work within the practice
- Improving systems, standards, and clinical processes
- Enhancing inpatient care and nurse involvement in case management
- Identifying training needs and shaping development plans
- Helping drive long-term practice growth

Veterinary Team
- 2 experienced Veterinary Surgeons
- 1 currently completing a Medicine Certificate
- 1 holds a Feline Medicine Certificate
Nursing Team
- 1 newly qualified RVN
- 1 part-time experienced RVN
- 1 very experienced and competent VCA
- 2 excellent CCAs
Additional Strength
- 10-year-experienced Practice Manager

Caseload & Clinical Work
We provide a varied and engaging caseload, including:
- Routine consultations
- Dentistry (with digital X-ray now available)
- Neutering
- Soft tissue surgery
- Medical workups
- Imaging and ultrasound (future training planned)
- Senior pet care
- Emergency consultations
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to increase nursing contributions to:
- Patient care
- Triage
- Inpatient support
- Nurse consults
- Client education
Future Development

- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- In-house laboratory (Sedivue & InVue diagnostics)

Location
We’re based on Ellesmere Retail Park, Walkden, Greater Manchester (around 8 miles from Manchester city centre), with excellent transport links to Bolton, Salford, and Worsley.
Nearby amenities include:
- Retail parks with M&S, Aldi, McDonald’s, KFC, Nando’s, and Subway (perfect for team lunches!)
- Blackleach Country Park for green escapes
Free on-site parking provided.
Working Pattern
- 40 hours/week over 4 days
- Currently not open on weekends
- Future plans include Saturday cover (1 in 4, via time off in lieu)
Salary & Benefits
- Salary range: up to £35,000, dependent on experience.
