Head Registered Veterinary Nurse
Senior Veterinary Nurse – Head of Nursing (Braintree)
We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join us in a leadership role as the Head of our outstanding nursing team in Braintree. This is the ideal position if you’re seeking career progression!
About the Role
You’ll work within an established practice with a diverse and stimulating caseload, offering opportunities to expand your skills in areas of interest and passion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, mentoring, and supporting the nursing and VCA team on a day-to-day basis, including training and guidance
- Serving as a role model in all aspects of clinical nursing
- Assisting in streamlining and optimising workflows to ensure efficient practice operations
- Advancing nurse-led consults and supporting their development within the practice
- Taking part in appraisals, clinical audits, and team development initiatives
- Encouraging individual and collective clinical growth across the nursing team
We want all team members to feel empowered to share ideas, fostering collaboration to drive practice success. You’ll play a crucial role in managing daily operations while setting an example through your expertise, mentoring others, and upholding the highest standards of client and patient care.

Key Requirements
We are seeking a forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) who:
- Has three or more years’ experience in small animal practice nursing
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and experience in team support
- Excels in client care and communication
- Enjoys developing others and modelling the right behaviour
- Is organised, proactive, and comfortable promoting positive change
- Has experience in clinical coaching (or ability to undertake relevant training)
Key Benefits
This role is full-time (40 hours per week) with a shared weekend rota of one in four weekends, plus a dedicated TOIL day after every weekend shift. Shift options:
- 8:30am–4:30pm (with a 30-minute lunch break)
- 11:15am–7:15pm (with a 30-minute lunch break)

We operate within a friendly, supportive team of various skills, bringing together:
- 5 Vet surgeons
- 4 RVNs
- 2 SVNs
- 4 Receptionists
- 1 Practice Manager
Our office is conveniently located inside a Pets at Home store in Freeport Shopping Village, just a 5-minute walk from Braintree train station, 20 minutes from Stansted Airport, and 45 minutes from the coast—location: CM77 8YJ.
