Headteacher – Specialist Education
Location: Greater Manchester (Tameside)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Start date: ASAP
Progress Teachers is recruiting an experienced and ambitious Headteacher on behalf of a specialist education provider in Greater Manchester.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a specialist school supporting children and young people with SEND and additional needs. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the school delivers a safe, inclusive, and high-quality education that enables every pupil to achieve positive outcomes.
The role
As Headteacher, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day management of the school. Your responsibilities will include:
- Establishing and delivering a clear vision for the school
- Driving continuous improvement across teaching, learning, and pupil outcomes
- Leading the development of an inclusive and engaging curriculum
- Recruiting, managing, coaching, and developing the staff team
- Maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare
- Monitoring pupil progress, attendance, behavior, and personal development
- Ensuring the school remains compliant and prepared for regulatory inspection
- Managing budgets, staffing, and resources effectively
- Building strong relationships with families, local authorities, and external professionals
- Creating a positive, consistent, and aspirational school culture

The successful candidate
We are looking for a confident and resilient leader who can inspire both pupils and staff. You will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Significant senior leadership experience within an education setting
- Previous experience as a Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Head of School, or equivalent senior leader
- A strong record of school improvement and raising educational standards
- Experience developing and implementing an effective curriculum
- A thorough understanding of safeguarding, KCSIE, and relevant regulatory requirements
- Strong people-management, communication, and decision-making skills
- The ability to work effectively with families, local authorities, and multidisciplinary professionals
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
- Experience within SEND, SEMH, alternative provision, or specialist education would be highly advantageous.
