Health and Safety Advisor

Health and Safety Advisor – GXO (Hams Hall Depot)

Are you a confident Health and Safety Advisor who can go beyond compliance? Can you act as a visible presence on site, influencing behaviours, challenging decisions, and embedding a proactive safety culture as part of our values?

Do you thrive in a site-based leadership role, partnering with operational and senior teams to shape culture, build capability, and drive H&S performance while supporting wider sites when needed? If so, we want to hear from you!

Role Overview

Join GXO as our Health and Safety Advisor, stationed at our Hams Hall depot for our customer Sainsbury’s.

This is a full-time, permanent position with 40-hour weekly contracted hours (Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:30), subject to business flexibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute & embed H&S strategy

    • Translate priorities into measurable operational outcomes
    • Maintain strong safety governance via audits, inspections, and risk management
  • Proactive safety leadership

    • Serve as trusted H&S advisor to site leadership, providing pragmatic guidance and constructive challenge
    • Balance risk, compliance, and business needs
    • Drive behavioural change and move performance beyond compliance
  • Develop leadership & operational capability

    • Coach managers in safety ownership, investigations, root cause analysis, and accountability
    • Strengthen a proactive safety culture
  • Data-driven risk management

    • Prioritise risk, analyse trends, and collaborate with cross-site teams
    • Lead effective incident investigations with quick, actionable outcomes

Essential Requirements

  • Proven ability to influence and engage leaders—deliver measurable safety improvements through coaching, investigations, and stakeholder management
  • Strong problem-solving skills—handle complex issues in fast-paced logistics environments
  • Highly organised, self-driven individual—able to manage multi priorities independently while maintaining discipline and integrity
  • Confident communicator—build trusted relationships across all stakeholders (colleagues, customers, external partners)

  • Technical qualifications:
    • NEBOSH or NVQ Level 3 critical
    • Safety-related or supervisory experience (logistics background a plus)
