About the Role
The Health and Safety Assessor will conduct structured health and safety risk assessments for dental and medical premises, reviewing:
- Policies and procedures
- Physical environments
- Compliance gaps
- Practical improvement opportunities
A typical day involves:
- Gathering and analysing documentation
- Interviewing practice teams
- Inspecting facilities via remote tools or scheduled site visits
- Producing clear, traffic-light-scored reports with action plans
- Advising clients on CQC readiness, fire safety, and legionella controls
- Providing follow-up guidance to support ongoing compliance

You’ll collaborate with the DAM team to:
- Refine assessment tools
- Contribute to best practices
- Uphold consistent healthcare-specific standards
Responsibilities
- Carry out in-depth risk assessments for healthcare and patient-facing environments.
- Identify compliance gaps and propose actionable recommendations.
- Document findings using traffic-light scoring and structured action plans.
- Conduct remote inspections or on-site visits as required.
- Provide CQC preparation and accreditation assistance.
- Advise on fire safety and legionella control regulations.
- Deliver clear, jargon-free guidance to non-technical staff.
- Support ongoing compliance monitoring.
- Work independently to meet client deadlines.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation (e.g., HSE guidelines for healthcare premises).
- Practical experience in dental, medical, or clinical environments.
- Structured risk assessment experience, with ability to translate findings into clear recommendations.
- Report-writing proficiency, including digital tools for assessments and compliance tracking.
- Excellent communication skills—ability to advise multidisciplinary teams and non-specialists.
- Atention to detail, analytical thinking, and sound judgment in prioritising risks.
- Self-motivated—ability to work remotely while managing multiple client engagements.
- Relevant qualification (e.g., NEBOSH/IOSH) or equivalent industry experience.

- Background in CQC frameworks or healthcare licensing.
- Experience in fire safety or legionella control.
Contract & Resources
- Self-employed contract with a competitive day rate + expenses.
- Requires own car and iPad (for remote assessments).
- Site visits are married to client collaboration locations.
