Health and Safety Officer (Facilities & Environmental)
Location: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Pool Civic Centre Contract: 6 months Salary: £21.27 per hour (Umbrella rate)
NEBOSH certification required
About the Role
We're looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Health and Safety Officer to help ensure a safe working environment across BCP Council.
In this role, you'll:
- Support the Council in meeting its health and safety responsibilities by providing practical advice.
- Carry out inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Help services develop and implement safe working practices.
- Work across multiple Council services to foster a positive health and safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide practical health and safety advice to Council services and maintained schools.
- Respond to health and safety enquiries and investigate concerns and complaints.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and recommend preventive improvements.
- Deliver health and safety training and awareness sessions.
- Support managers in implementing safe systems of work.
- Assist in reviewing and updating health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and reports for compliance and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For

Essential
- A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Health and Safety or a related subject.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma (required).
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in carrying out inspections, risk assessments, and audits.
- Background in supporting health and safety management within an organisation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain requirements clearly.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Practical, solutions-focused approach with detailed attention.
