Location: Lancaster Salary: £28,917 per annum Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week Closing Date: 15th July 2026 Reference: SE4211
About the Role
Are you confident managing health and safety in a complex, hands-on environment?
Lancaster and Morecambe College are looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Lead to take overall responsibility for health and safety across the Construction and Engineering programme area. This role involves:
- Collaborating with the cross-College Health & Safety team to ensure legislative compliance
- Developing and promoting a strong safety culture
- Maintaining safe, well-prepared workshop environments
- Line-managing the Instructor Technician team, providing leadership and fostering high-quality delivery in practical learning areas
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring all Health & Safety legislation is met across the Construction and Engineering department
- Developing, reviewing, and implementing risk assessments, along with safe systems of work
- Analysing health and safety data to identify trends and risks
- Preparing for and facilitating audits and inspections
- Supporting colleagues through training, briefings, and one-to-one guidance
- Managing the Instructor Technician team, mentoring and developing their safety expertise
- Ensuring all necessary documentation and records are up to date and compliant

Requirements
To apply for this role, you should:
- Have professional health and safety experience -Possess a practical knowledge of construction or engineering environments
- Be confident developing and reviewing risk assessments
- Have Level 2 health and safety qualifications (or commit to working towards them)
- Hold GCSEs (or equivalents) in Maths and English
- Be committed to achieving IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and NEBOSH qualifications
