Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager

Kelston Sparkes Group – South West, UK

One of the UK’s leading earthworks, quarrying and civil engineering specialists, Kelston Sparkes Group is looking for an experienced SHE Manager to lead safety, compliance and environmental performance across a diverse portfolio of projects.


About the Role

As SHE Manager, you will:

  • Develop and uphold a proactive safety culture across multiple sites and project teams
  • Provide expert guidance, conduct site inspections and support the company’s H&S management system
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and operations to embed best practice
  • Operate within a fast-paced, hands-on environment—ideal for an experienced professional seeking impact in a family-owned, reputable business with a legacy of quality, safety, and integrity

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead SHE support across quarrying, construction, and earthworks projects in the South West
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Train and coach site teams and managers in safety best practices
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, industry standards, and company policies
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to SHE strategy development
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships (clients, subcontractors, and internal teams)
  • Foster a positive and engaging safety culture organization-wide

About You

We’re seeking a motivated SHE professional with:

  • Technical expertise combined with a practical, collaborative approach
  • A strong solutions-focused mindset to address real-world challenges

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager, SHE Manager, or Senior SHE Advisor
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards it)
  • Essential quarrying expertise, plus significant experience in construction, civil engineering, and heavy plant environments
  • Proven ability to improve SHE performance and influence safe behaviours
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (OHS) management systems
  • Strong communication skills, able to coach, support, and challenge where needed
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the South West region
