Health and Safety Manager
Sharpsmart UK is looking for an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead and shape a proactive, risk-based safety culture across our national operations. This is a key leadership role where you will work closely with senior stakeholders and operational teams to ensure the safe handling of healthcare waste, including sharps, while maintaining full regulatory compliance. You will take ownership of the H&S strategy, driving continuous improvement, reducing incidents, and supporting teams to deliver safe and efficient services across multiple sites. \n
What you will do Partner with senior leadership and site teams to strengthen a proactive health and safety culture across all UK operations Develop and deliver a risk-based H&S strategy aligned to operational priorities across facilities, logistics, and customer environments Lead the implementation of H&S policies, SOPs, and risk assessments across all activities Monitor performance through data, reporting, and audits, driving continuous improvement Lead incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and effective corrective actions Facilitate H&S committees and coordinate improvement plans with regional leaders and site teams Develop and deliver training programmes, including inductions and refresher training, ensuring accurate compliance records Act as the key contact for regulators, insurers, and legal bodies, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation Work closely with operational teams to identify and implement risk-based safety improvements

Candidate Profile NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent CMIOSH (or working towards) Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation Proven H&S leadership experience in high-risk sectors such as healthcare, waste, logistics, or industrial environments Strong understanding of hazardous or clinical waste risks Demonstrated ability to influence and drive behavioural change Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills Confident communicator with experience delivering training Commercial awareness, including managing H&S-related costs Driving license and willingness to travel
