Health & Safety Manager

We have a fantastic opening for a Health & Safety Manager to join our Backstage support team.

Our Backstage support teams are crucial to the delivery across all five of our venues – The NEC, bp pulse LIVE, Utilita Arena Birmingham, the ICC, and Vox - and include IT, Finance, Marketing, People, Legal, Safety and Procurement. Collaborating seamlessly with our frontline operational teams to create unforgettable moments for the millions of people that visit us each year.

About The Role

This role will provide authoritative health and safety leadership, strategic guidance, and operational support across the venues, driving continuous compliance and a proactive safety culture.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead and support health and safety planning, including policy development, tracking tools, and site survey initiatives.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership, offering management cover and support across departments and for other venue safety managers as needed.
  • Oversee event safety operations, maintaining flexibility to support evenings, weekends, and unsociable hours.
  • Direct incident and accident investigations, producing statutory reports, analysing trends, and implementing risk-reduction strategies.
  • Own and drive proactive health and safety initiatives, ensuring compliance, managing legislative changes, and providing expert risk management advice across the business.

About You

Our Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety; NEBOSH Diploma or L6 vocational health and safety qualification, desirable.
  • Proven operational safety experience in large-scale venues, events, or high-footfall environments.
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence internal teams and external contractors.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, emotional intelligence, and desirable specialist knowledge in venue risks (e.g. fire safety, CDM, noise, lasers, pyrotechnics).
