Health & Safety Manager

Location: Upminster, Essex

Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a well-established specialist services business operating across London and the South East. This is a pivotal role for someone who is passionate about creating a positive safety culture and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance across a diverse operational environment.

Working closely with senior leadership and operational teams, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the company's health and safety management systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation while supporting the business’s continued growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the company's health, safety, and compliance strategy across multiple operational sites
  • Ensure the business remains fully compliant with current UK health and safety legislation and industry best practice
  • Develop, review, and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, producing detailed reports and implementing corrective actions
  • Deliver health and safety training, toolbox talks, and guidance to managers and employees
  • Support contract managers and operational teams with day-to-day health and safety advice
  • Monitor contractor compliance and ensure high standards are maintained across all projects
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records and prepare reports for senior management
  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the business, encouraging employee engagement and continuous improvement

About You

  • Previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager within a facilities management, engineering, building services, or specialist services environment
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and accident investigations
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to influence and drive positive change
  • A NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent) is highly desirable
  • A full UK driving licence
