Health & Safety Manager
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to join our team and lead the continued development of a positive, engaging, and high-performing safety culture across our warehouse operations.
In this pivotal role, you’ll take ownership of health and safety across our fast-paced warehouse environment, while partnering closely with the wider H&S team to ensure compliance and best practice across our office and retail teams.
As our Health & Safety Manager, you’ll:
- Drive our safety agenda, championing continuous improvement initiatives, strengthening risk management practices, and ensuring our teams work in a safe and supportive environment.
- Develop long-term safety strategies, conduct on-site safety compliance checks, deliver engaging training, and lead H&S investigations.
- Work closely with Operations Management and HR, using both strategic thinking and a hands-on approach to influence change, improve compliance, and support operational excellence.

How You’ll Contribute
Strategic Safety Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and drive a long-term health and safety strategy aligned with business and operational goals.
- Benchmark safety performance against industry standards and implement best-practice initiatives.
- Lead innovation projects, including automation opportunities and enhanced safety monitoring tools.
- Introduce real-time hazard reporting systems and proactive safety initiatives.
- Lead ergonomics and manual handling improvements to reduce workplace injuries and support employee wellbeing.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and support sustainability initiatives.
- Partner with HR to oversee health assessments and analyse health trends to support workplace wellbeing.

Accident & Incident Management
- Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and RIDDOR compliance.
- Analyse incident trends to identify high-risk areas and implement preventative measures.
- Embed a culture of learning and continuous improvement across all teams.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Partner with Operations Management to develop and maintain:
- Risk assessments
- Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Key areas: forklift truck operations, yard safety, manual handling, and heavy goods activities.
- Conduct risk assessments, ensure control measures remain effective and best-practice-aligned.
- Lead regular inspections, audits, and safety spot checks.
- Work closely with HR on:
- Occupational health referrals
- Amended duties
- Return-to-work programmes
- Support managers with risk assessments for vulnerable employees and specific workplace requirements.
- Lead the development and review of health and safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee emergency planning and fire safety processes, including emergency drills and effectiveness reviews.
- Manage contractor safety protocols and visitor safety procedures.
- Ensure accurate compliance with Permit to Work processes for high-risk activities.
- Support wider business projects with health and safety expertise as needed.
Safety Communication & Training
- Create engaging toolbox talks aligned to business priorities and incident trends.
- Deliver regular safety communications and monthly safety updates.
- Design and deliver structured health and safety training programmes, including:
- Inductions
- Refresher training
- Continuously improve training materials based on operational changes and lessons learned.
Engagement & Safety Culture
- Champion a positive and proactive safety culture across all teams.
- Lead:
- H&S Committee activities
- Safety tours
- Engagement initiatives
- Act as a key point of contact for safety representatives and employee concerns.
- Support wellbeing and employee engagement initiatives alongside HR.
Data-Driven Reporting
- Produce monthly HSE performance reports with meaningful insights and recommendations.
- Deliver quarterly updates to Directors highlighting trends and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with operational leaders to embed best-in-class safety practices across the business.
- Collaborate with the Head of Operations to align safety initiatives with wider business objectives.
- Support additional projects and responsibilities as required.

The Talent You’ll Bring
Essential
- NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management (or equivalent qualification).
- Experience in internal auditing.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in:
- Conducting risk assessments
- Developing Safe Systems of Work within warehouse environments
- Experience managing occupational health processes and understanding associated legislation (e.g., HSAW and Equality Act requirements).
- Experience designing and delivering engaging health and safety training programmes.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Exceptional organisation and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel and strong IT capability.
Desirable
- Experience supporting environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Experience leading health and safety culture transformation projects.
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
- ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification.
