Are you a registered mental health nurse looking for a new opportunity to make a real difference to peoples experience of care and treatment during a mental health crisis?
The Health Based Place of Safety Team, based at St Ann's Hospital in Poole, are looking for positive and compassionate nurses, with excellent therapeutic engagement and assessment skills in supporting people experiencing acute distress.
The primary function of the team:
- Provide a safe environment and care for people being detained under Section 136 of the MHA and brought in by the Police for the purpose of a Mental Health Act Assessment.
Service Details:
- The service operates 24/7, with shifts covering nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
Employment Requirements:
- An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required. The Trust will cover the cost of this.
- Successful completion of PMVA training is essential for this role.
- Applications from candidates requiring current Skilled Worker Sponsorship to work in the UK are ineligible.

Role Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safe and appropriate assessment, care, and treatment of individuals brought into the Health Based Place of Safety (HBPoS).
- Work closely with clinical site managers.
- Liaise with, and work alongside, a range of professionals and external agencies, including police, Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs), and medical colleagues to facilitate the timely assessment of those detained in the HBPoS under the Mental Health Act.
- Ensure all clinical and legal procedures and documentation are completed in line with Trust policy and MHA Legislation.
