Health Care Assistant – Residential Services
About the Role
Purpose of the Role
The Health Care Assistant is expected to engage in daily activities and routines of the service they operate within, comprising:
- Direct support for service users
- Administrative work
- Daily household tasks
The role requires working as part of a dedicated and innovative team within Residential Services, ensuring high-quality care in alignment with HIQA regulations & standards.
As 24/7 specialist services operate continuously, working hours follow a shift basis, including sleep-ins and night duty. Due to operational demands, flexibility in working hours may occasionally be necessary.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant QQI Level 5 Healthcare qualification or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar environment, supporting adults or children with intellectual or physical disabilities
- Extensive knowledge of adults/children with complex needs
- Full manual driving license (valid for driving in Ireland)
- Eligibility to live and work in Ireland

Main Responsibilities
- Assist with care and activities for children/adults as assigned, adhering to the Integrated Care Plan
- Uphold a high standard of care, prioritising individual needs
- Act as an advocate for service users and their families, ensuring access to appropriate support and information
- Foster social interaction through individual and group engagement
- Follow safety protocols and handling guidance for all equipment
- Participate in team meetings, staff forums, and email communication
- Ensure personal care support is provided when required
- Maintain strict confidentiality for the organisation and service users
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet service needs on different shifts
