Health Care Support Worker – Bryn Hesketh Ward (Fixed Term/Secondment)

This post is fixed term/secondment until 01.05.2027 due to Maternity Leave.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker to join Bryn Hesketh Ward—a dementia assessment ward with strong links to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).

Language: Welsh is desirable, but applicants with Welsh or English fluency are encouraged to apply.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will:

  • Work as part of the nursing team to deliver evidence-based, high-quality clinical care tailored to patient needs.
  • Assist registered nurses/practitioners in providing delegated patient care, focusing on addressing the holistic needs of service users alongside other healthcare disciplines.
  • Undertake a broad range of clinical duties, including working independently and as part of a team, supervising patients and contributing to future care plans.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

  • NVQ Level 3 (or being trained to achieve it within 18 months) with relevant experience in working with people affected by dementia.

Essential Experience

  • Work history in the healthcare sector, particularly within mental health settings, is mandatory.

Essential Aptitudes & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of risk management and health & safety regulations.
  • Knowledge and respect for patient confidentiality.

Essential Values & Skills

  • Ability to operate seamlessly within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide care with warmth and understanding.
  • Must be a collaborative team player.

Essential Professional Standards

  • Fitness to practice with willingness to adhere to de-escalation techniques and safe handling/breakaway measures, as per BCUHB Policy, subject to appropriate training.

Desirable Criteria

  • Fluency in Welsh.
