Part-Time Band 3 Health Care Support Worker – Outpatient Service (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde)

The Role
We are currently recruiting **four part-time Band 3 Health Care Support Workers to join the Outpatient Service in the South Sector—a dynamic and diverse environment pivotal to patient care delivery across multiple specialties.
The successful candidate will work within the nursing and multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care is delivered in specialities such as ENT, Dermatology, Medical, Oncology, Surgical, Renal, and Urology. Duties include supporting consultant and nurse-led clinics, assisting with procedures, and contributing to efficient service operations.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility under current Home Office requirements. NHSGGC will only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) if criteria are met.
Duration, Location & Working Pattern
- Part-time post within the Outpatient Service, South Sector
- Flexible working required to meet service needs; the role may involve multiple sites
- Shift patterns:
- Short shifts (~4 to 4.25 hours), Monday to Friday (mornings or afternoons)
- Alternative arrangement: Two full working days paired with two half days (~3.5 hours), also in the morning or afternoon
- Salary: Paid pro rata for part-time hours
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Administrative Support:
- Assist the nursing/multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, effective, high-quality outpatient care.
- Carry out technical and clinical tasks, including:
- Assisting with procedures
- Patient observations (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature)
- Venepuncture, blood glucose monitoring, bladder scanning, pregnancy testing
- Chaperoning patients
- Managing electronic records (TrakCare)
- Housekeeping and supply ordering
- Support patient flow in clinic areas and the ambulance waiting area.

Patient Observation & Monitoring:
- Accurately record and report patient conditions (physical and psychological changes).
- Respond appropriately to deteriorating patient status and escalate concerns as necessary.

Service Improvement & Record-Keeping:
- Contribute to service audits.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records.
Knowledge, Training & Experience Requirements
- Desired experience:
- Prior experience in a caring environment (preferably healthcare).
- Experience working in an outpatient department, clinic, or treatment room (desirable).
- Essential competencies:
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Poor-to-excellent communication (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in IT systems for electronic record-keeping.
- Motivated, organised approach to work.
- Basic clinical tasks (e.g., venepuncture).
- Observation, assessment, and response to changes in patient condition.
- Approach to development:
- Evidence of continuing professional learning (desirable).
