Health Care Support Worker

About the Role

As a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) in the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, you will play a critical role in delivering compassionate, person-centred care to patients while supporting a skilled nursing team. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will contribute to a safe, supportive, and high-quality care environment.

Key Details

  • Location: Princess Royal Maternity Hospital
  • Hours: 11.55-hour shifts (rotational, part-time)
  • Contract: Permanent (part-time)
  • Salary: Pro rata for part-time hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients with activities of daily living, ensuring dignity, comfort, and independence.
  • Assist Registered Nurses and multidisciplinary teams in delivering high-quality patient-centred care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, reporting changes in physical or emotional condition.
  • Build positive, empathetic relationships with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the ward through resource management, stock control, and housekeeping.
  • Participate in mandatory training, development programmes, and competency assessments.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, we require:

Qualifications & Experience

  • A caring and compassionate approach—preferably with experience in healthcare, social care, or a similar supporting role.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with basic literacy, numeracy, and IT proficiency.

  • Willingness to undertake in-house training and complete competency-based development.
  • Awareness of health, safety, and confidentiality standards in a clinical setting.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and committed to delivering excellence in patient care.
