Role: Health Physics Monitor/Technician

Location: Capenhurst, Cheshire, UK

Position Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and proactive Health Physics Monitor / Technician to join the operational team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing essential radiation protection services on-site, ensuring that all personnel, equipment, and environments are safe from radiological hazards and compliant with stringent industry regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Radiological Surveys: Conduct routine and non-routine radiation and contamination surveys of workplaces, plant equipment, and materials using specialized monitoring instruments.
  • Workforce Support: Provide health physics coverage for maintenance, operations, and engineering teams working within radiologically controlled areas.
  • Dose Control: Issue and monitor personal dosimetry, establishing safe stay times and working parameters for personnel in specific zones.
  • Contamination Control: Monitor personnel, tools, and waste transferring out of controlled areas to prevent the spread of contamination. Set up physical barriers and step-off pads as required.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all radiological surveys, logs, and safety documentation in accordance with statutory regulations and site procedures.
  • Emergency Response: Assist with response protocols and decontamination efforts in the event of an incident or unexpected alarm.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Proven track record working as a Health Physics Monitor / Radiation Protection Technician within the UK nuclear sector (decommissioning, power generation, or defense).
  • Qualifications: Relevant industry-recognized qualifications, such as City & Guilds Level 2/3 in Radiation Protection, NVQ in Radiation Protection, or equivalent internal site-specific monitoring certifications.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in operating a variety of handheld radiological monitoring instruments (dose rate meters, contamination monitors, air samplers).
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain or currently holding UK Security Clearance (SC level preferred).
  • Attributes: Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to safety.
