About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Microbiology Scientist to join our team at Canberra Health Services.
We are seeking a motivated and highly organised individual who takes initiative, works collaboratively, and values being part of a supportive team. The successful applicant will be adaptable and flexible, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and deliver high-quality, client-focused services in a dynamic workplace.
This position is based within the Microbiology Department at the Canberra Hospital laboratory. The department provides a broad range of clinical diagnostic microbiology services, including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, and parasitology.

In this role, you will:

  • Process patient samples for microbiological examination
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation
  • Read culture plates to distinguish between normal flora and pathogenic organisms
  • Perform bacterial identification
  • Set up and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility testing results

The laboratory currently operates an extended-hours service from 8:00am to 10:30pm, seven days a week. The successful applicant will be required to participate in out-of-hours and on-call rosters.

Pathology allowance may apply, if applicable as defined in the ACT Public Sector Health Professional Enterprise Agreement, Section C.
