Job Description: Band 5 Registered Nurse – Health Protection Service (HPS), North Wales
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse within the newly created Health Protection Service (HPS) in North Wales.
The Role Overview
The HPS will operate in partnership to respond to health protection measures and threats as required. The role requires flexible, agile working either at a designated base or as part of a patient-facing, outreach team across North Wales as needed. The team will collaborate with agencies such as Public Health Wales to protect and enhance the health and wellbeing of the population while reducing health inequalities.
Under supervision of the Deputy Manager and working alongside the Team Manager and Clinical Service Manager, you will play a critical role in clinical, operational management and staff development within the HPS.
We are seeking a proactive, forward-thinking Registered Nurse with strong organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
As a Band 5 Registered Nurse within the Health Protection Team (HPS), you will:
- Provide evidence-based nursing care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, while collaborating with colleagues to meet patient and family needs.
- Work as part of both a designated clinical base and as part of an agile, patient-facing outreach team across North Wales.
- Contribute to management and organisation of the clinical area, including participating in staff education, development, and supervision.
- Ensure adherence to clinical governance frameworks and implement evidence-based practice where applicable.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
✅ Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
Desirable Criteria
🔹 Evidence of post-registration study and training 🔹 Additional relevant qualifications to strengthen clinical expertise
Essential Experience
✅ Proven experience in holistic nursing care ✅ Interest in developing existing nursing skills ✅ Relevant experience in Health Protection (though transferable skills will also be considered)
Desirable Experience
🔹 Clear understanding of clinical governance frameworks 🔹 Experience implementing evidence-based nursing practice
Skills & Competencies
Essential Skills
✅ Strong understanding of contract of care standards ✅ Ability to document clinical details clearly and accurately ✅ Good IT proficiency (coding, note-taking, and digital record-keeping)
Desirable Skills
🔹 Knowledge and application of incident reporting policies
Additional Requirements
✅ Ability to travel efficiently across assigned sites as required for patient outreach or emergency response duties.
Personal & Disposition Requirements
Essential
✅ Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) ✅ Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain composure in challenging situations
Desirable
🔹 Fluency in Welsh (though multilingual candidates applying in English are not disadvantaged)
