Health and Safety Manager UK (Distribution Centre) – Dunstable

📌 Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Health & Safety management systems.
- Coach and develop Distribution Centre (DC) management teams to drive ownership and leadership qualities.
- Take the lead in Safety Training Team, delivering all Manual Handling Equipment (MHE) and health & safety training programmes.
- Business partner with DC management to guide on-site health & safety activities.
- Plan and implement employee health & safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvements.
- Lead development and consistency of risk assessments and safe working systems across the supply chain.
- Ensure all Managers, Team Leads, and employees are trained to comply with legislative health & safety obligations—offering coaching and support as needed.
- Act as supply chain expert in health & safety matters, collaborating with leadership to shape the health & safety agenda and culture.
- Conduct site safety audits and inspections, implementing and tracking corrective actions.
- Monitor health & safety compliance, identifying and resolving non-compliance issues through coaching and support.
- Lead accident investigations and statutory reporting to ensure full closure, documentation, and learning opportunities.
- Analyse and report health & safety KPIs, accident statistics, and progress to senior management and the Health & Safety Committees, recommending corrective measures.
- Conduct supply chain, third-party safety audits, and report findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate health & safety inductions, tours, and inspections.
- Guide safety representatives, fire marshals, senior fire marshals, and first aiders, maintaining and updating communication lists.
- Liaise with Environment Health Office & Primary Authority, reporting key updates to the Senior H&S Manager.
- Ensure own skills remain up-to-date with the latest legislation and codes of practice, upskilling management where needed.
- Foster a site culture that embodies the Company values.
- Flexibly support other business needs as required.
- Drive continuous improvement of Distribution Centre Health & Safety management systems.
- Lead distribution fire risk assessment to ensure compliance under the FSRRO 2005.

📋 Requirements
Essential
- Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety Qualification (or working towards).
- Training / Train the Trainer Qualification, with relevant experience.
- Strong coaching and development skillset.

Desirable
- Experience gained in a multi-site, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FCMG) / distribution environment.
- Fire safety qualification.
