Contracted Technical Assessor – Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001)
Location: Remote (UK-based), with UK and occasional international travel
Contract Type: Contractor / Independent
About UKAS
UKAS is the UK’s National Accreditation Body, responsible for assessing organisations that provide conformity assessment services. We help maintain trust across industries by confirming that assessment bodies apply standards correctly, consistently and impartially.
The Role
We are looking for experienced occupational health and safety professionals to join our network of independent Technical Assessors, supporting UKAS assessments of Certification Bodies operating against ISO 45001:2018.
This role is centered on conformity assessment, not consultancy or direct health and safety management. You will help evaluate whether Certification Bodies have the competence, audit approach and sector knowledge needed to certify organisations within relevant OH&S management system scopes.
The work may cover sectors such as construction, manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, food production, utilities, transport, healthcare, education, public administration, services and SSIP-related schemes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
