Health, Safety & Quality Apprentice
Location: Melton (near Hull, HU14 3HJ)
Salary: National Minimum Wage (age dependent) + 30 days holiday + pension + staff discount across Heron Foods & B&M

As a Health, Safety & Quality Apprentice, you'll support our Health, Safety and Quality team in helping to maintain safe working environments, promote compliance, and uphold quality standards across our stores, distribution centre and support functions. You'll gain practical experience while working alongside experienced professionals in a fast-paced retail business.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop valuable administrative, analytical and compliance-focused skills while earning a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification.

About The Role
You'll be part of our Health, Safety and Quality team, helping to support the systems and processes that keep our colleagues, customers and workplaces safe. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll learn how health and safety policies are implemented, how quality standards are monitored, and how compliance requirements are maintained across a national retail operation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the administration of health, safety and quality processes
- Maintaining accurate records, reports and compliance documentation
- Logging and tracking incidents, accidents and near-miss reports
- Assisting with investigations and follow-up actions where required
- Supporting the coordination of risk assessments and audits
- Monitoring compliance-related activities and maintaining tracking systems
- Liaising with stores, distribution centres and internal departments to obtain information and provide updates
- Assisting with the preparation of health, safety and quality reports
- Supporting awareness campaigns and colleague communications relating to health, safety and wellbeing
- Learning about legal requirements, company policies and industry best practice
- Providing general administrative support to the Health, Safety and Quality team

What You'll Need
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Confidence using computers and learning new systems
- A proactive and flexible approach to work
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- The ability to work well as part of a team
- An interest in Health & Safety, Quality, Compliance or Business Administration
Qualifications
- Good standard of English and Maths
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (desirable but not essential)
