Job Overview
We're looking for a Health, Safety, Security & Environment Business Partner to join our team and support the Director of Health, Safety and Security and the Head of Environment in delivering First Bus’s Health, Safety and Environmental strategies.
This is a high-impact role where you'll work closely with senior leaders and operational teams to:
- Drive continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance
- Embed a culture of safety and sustainability across our business
As an integral member of the Franchising management team, you will act as a trusted partner to support and facilitate best practice across First Bus.
Location: Wales, Yorkshire, North West England or Midlands Salary: Competitive + up to 15% annual bonus Contract: Full-time, permanent Flexibility: Must be willing to travel regularly across regions (Wales, Yorkshire, North West, Midlands-based role)
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with leaders to implement HSS&E strategies and drive continuous improvement
- Support ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) accreditation and maintain SMS & EMS systems
- Identify and lead initiatives to improve safety, environmental performance, and wellbeing
- Advise and coach managers on legal compliance and practical HS&E solutions
- Conduct audits, risk assessments, and investigations to enhance standards
- Analyse performance data, identify trends, and recommend improvements to senior managers
- Develop and deliver HS&E training and contribute to policy development
- Represent First Bus at internal and external HS&E forums

About You
Qualifications (Minimum)
✓ NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) ✓ NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or IEMA equivalent ✓ Chartered Member of IOSH (or working towards)
(Progression towards NEBOSH Diploma recognitionally favoured.)
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a similar Business Partnering role in a complex organisation
- Strong stakeholder management and senior-level influencing skills
- Commercially astute with effective problem-solving abilities
- Experience in unionised, multi-site environments
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage time, prioritise, and work across matrix structures
- Analytical mindset with an eye for attention to detail and risk management
- Skilled in delivering strategic training and development programmes
- Strong understanding of UK HS&E legislation, along with its practical application
- Experience in project and change management
