Healthcare Assistant

Senior Healthcare Assistant – MRI & Imaging Support (London Centre)

Department: London Diagnostic Centre

Location: Great Portland Street, Central London Compensation: £28,900 per year Contract Hours: 3 shifts per week (7 days rota), 12.5-hour shifts (37.5 hrs/week)

Patient Care & Interaction

  • Welcome patients and assist with examination paperwork
  • Escort patients safely through the diagnostic process
  • Provide clear explanations to ease anxieties and ensure preparation
  • Collaborate with Radiographers on patient preparation
  • Handle manual patient transfers and assist with mobility
  • Manage appointment timings and communicate updates

Clinical Duties & Safety

  • Take and record vital signs (BP, temperature, etc.)
  • Support with venepuncture/cannulation (if trained and certified)
  • Monitor post-examination recovery, including medication administration
  • Ensure strict adherence to MRI safety protocols & ionising radiation (IR(ME)R 2017) protection

Specialised Areas

MRI-Specific Roles:

  • Screen patients for MRI contraindications (e.g., implants, pacemakers)
  • Prep patients for contrast-enhanced procedures
  • Manage bookings, safety checklists, and MRI-safe practices

Ultrasound-Specific Support:

  • Schedule and optimise scan workflows
  • Ensure clinical exam room preparation
  • Maintain hygiene standards (probe cleaning, PPE)
  • Maintain patient dignity during intimate scans

Health Screening Operations:

  • Relay patient queries promptly
  • Coordinate GP consultations, mammogram, and other imaging referrals
  • Gather and compile pre-consultation data for seamless follow-up

Administrative & Operational Tasks

  • Complete RIS (Radiology Information System) records and related documentation
  • Liaise with radiologists for appointment scheduling
  • Arrange deliveries, stock inventory, and labs logistics
  • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvements
  • Strict patient confidentiality (GDPR compliance)

Core Skills & Qualifications We Look For
