Healthcare Assistant - Circle Health Group

Healthcare Assistant – Oncology Department – Chaucer Hospital

About the Role

A permanent, fixed-term part-time (22.5 hours/week) opportunity is available for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Oncology department at Chaucer Hospital, part of Circle Health Group. This national leader in independent healthcare offers a supportive environment for compassionate care.

Location & Hours

  • Chaucer Hospital, Canterbury
  • 22.5 hours per week (flexible shift pattern)

Salary & Hours

  • Up to £30,675.00 FTE per year, based on experience, training, and qualifications
  • Permanent/Fixed-Term position

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care (hygiene, dressing, mobility, toileting, and oral care) with respect for dignity and autonomy.
  • Support eating, drinking, and nutritional needs, including accurate dietary intake documentation.
  • Provide emotional and psychological comfort to patients and their relatives in a safe, caring environment.
  • Conduct and record routine clinical observations (BP, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, blood glucose) after appropriate training.
  • Assist with basic clinical procedures (wound care setup, catheter care, mobility aid use, and pressure area prevention).
  • Maintain sterility and organisation of clinical areas (trolleys, beds, equipment).
  • Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to deliver efficient, patient-centred care.

Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in care or health support settings (hospitals, care homes, domiciliary/community).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate approach.
  • Ability to follow protocols, escalate concerns, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and IT proficiency.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including moving and handling patients.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding, infection control, and clinical documentation.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Previous Oncology experience.
