Healthcare Assistant – Hospice Care at Home Service, Marie Curie
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care, delivering:

About the Role
We are expanding our Hospice Care at Home Service in Cwm Taf Morgannwg to serve more patients with life-limiting conditions and their families. We are recruiting Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to support:
- Symptom control
- End-of-life care
- Respite services
- New urgent response capacity for hospital-to-community discharges
The role involves:
- Assisting with care planning and daily living activities
- Maintaining a safe and dignified living environment
- Supporting patients through withdrawal, bereavement, and grief
- Working closely with District Nursing and Primary Care Teams
Your Responsibilities
- Contribute to care planning tailored to individual needs
- Provide hands-on assistance with personal care activities
- Monitor patient conditions, document changes, and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support patients and families through emotionally sensitive stages of palliative care
- Work in both emergency (e.g., hospital discharges) and planned (e.g., respite) care scenarios

Key Requirements
To apply, you’ll need:
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent, e.g., NCFE, BTEC)
- Functional Skills in Numeracy & Literacy at Level 2
- Minimum 6 months recent experience in care delivery within health or social care
- Knowledge of palliative and end-of-life care, including:
- Holistic care planning
- Symptom management (pain, breathlessness, etc.)
- Ethical end-of-life decision-making
- Strong communication abilities
- Empathetic listening
- Person-centred conversations
- Ability to:
- Plan and prioritise care tasks efficiently
- Adapt to rapid changes in a patient’s condition
- Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle (transport familiarisation will be provided for those who do not drive)

- Salary: £26,300 per year at Marie Curie’s Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (AFC) + enhancements
