Role Description

The Healthcare Assistant is a part-time, term time + one week, on-site role based at Edge Grove School in the London Area, United Kingdom. The role involves providing day-to-day health and wellbeing support to pupils and staff, including basic pupil care, monitoring minor illnesses and injuries, and assisting with first aid under appropriate guidance. The Healthcare Assistant will help with safe medicine administration, maintain accurate health records, and ensure that all activities follow school policies and current health and safety regulations. The role also includes liaising with parents, staff, and external healthcare professionals when needed, promoting a safe, caring environment for the school community.

  • Ability to perform safe Manual Handling and follow established procedures for moving and supporting children or equipment.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with pupils, families, and staff.
  • Experience or training in Patient Care, including monitoring wellbeing, responding to minor health concerns, and supporting recovery.
  • Basic understanding of Medicine administration processes and record-keeping, ideally with experience in a school or healthcare setting.
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety practices, including first aid, infection control, and safeguarding principles.
  • Relevant healthcare qualification or certification (e.g., NVQ in Health and Social Care, healthcare support worker training, or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Current first aid certification or willingness to undertake training provided by the school.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use sound judgment, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school team.
