About Marie Curie
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We provide:
- Community nursing and hospice care across all four UK nations
- Research to advance understanding of good end-of-life care
- Information and support on dying, death, and bereavement
Despite our efforts, we currently only reach around 10% of dying people in the UK. One in four people with terminal illness do not receive the care they deserve.
Now, we need compassionate and dedicated professionals to join our team and help change that.
The Role: Healthcare Assistant – Community Based
We’re seeking a committed Healthcare Assistant to deliver high-quality, person-centred care in the community of Orkney, Scotland. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients and their families during one of life’s most challenging times.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside patients and their loved ones to meet physical, emotional, and practical needs
- Assist with personal care, mobility, nutrition, and comfort needs
- Provide compassionate, dignified support in line with patient choice
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive working environment

What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
✔ Experience in health or social care (preferably in palliative or end-of-life care) ✔ NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards it) ✔ Work experience in a care setting, especially with vulnerable populations
Personal Attributes
✔ Strong communication skills and an empathetic approach ✔ Ability to build trust with patients and families ✔ Commitment to dignity, respect, and patient autonomy ✔ Willingness to work flexibly, including nights and weekends

Salary
£26,696 – £28,988 pro rata (aligned with Agency Critical Care (AFC) pay scale) + Orkney Island Allowance
Hourly Contract
Permanent | 22.5 hours per week
