We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Full Sutton, a Category A high-security prison in Pocklington, York. With a capacity of around 600 men, the prison houses individuals serving long-term sentences.
This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with the pharmacy, and respond to emergency situations—no two days are the same!
Every healthcare assistant takes responsibility and ownership of a specific area (social care, bloodborne viruses, health promotion, etc.), allowing you to become an SME while learning about all areas of healthcare.

Hours & Salary
- Part-time position: 22.5 hours per week on a 4-week rolling rota
- Shifts: 3 x 7.5-hour shifts between 7 AM – 7:15 PM, with 1 in 4 weekends (no night shifts)
- Annual salary: Up to £17,833.80 per annum
- Security requirements: All candidates must have a legal right to work in the UK and will undergo additional vetting and security checks

Responsibilities
As our new Healthcare Assistant, your duties will include:
- Delivering exceptional care to patients in the healthcare department and on the wings
- Supporting the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy, and patient assessments (treatment and evaluation of care)
- Assisting the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care, including venepuncture
- Supporting clinics such as blood tests, ECGs, and weight monitoring
- Supporting second receptions (new prisoners after their fifth day on site) alongside the registered nurse
- Acting as a second checker in pharmacy as required
- Primary work within the primary care team, but may undertake duties in the substance misuse team as needed

Requirements
At Practice Plus Group, we deliver NHS services across prisons, young offenders’ centres, and immigration removal settings, valuing compassionate, caring, and driven professionals.
To succeed in this role, you should:
- Hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care (or hold a Care Certificate)
- Have experience in phlebotomy (highly desirable)
- Preferably have experience in a clinical care setting, ideally from a hospital or prison environment
- Have clinical experience in areas such as venepuncture or ECGs
- Demonstrate a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
