We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Full Sutton, a Category A high security prison located in Pocklington, York. HMP Full Sutton has capacity of around 600 men, and houses those serving long term sentences.

This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same!

Every healthcare assistant takes responsibility / ownership of a specific area (social care, bloodborne viruses, health promotion etc), which allows you to become an SME whilst learning about all areas of healthcare!

Hours

This position is part time working 22.5 hours per week on a 4 week rolling rota basis.

  • You will work 3 x 7.5 hour shifts between 7am - 7:15pm, with around 1 in 4 weekends.
  • There are no night shifts

Salary

You will receive an annual salary of between up to £17,833.80 per annum.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks

  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients care
  • Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care, including venepuncture
  • Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight etc
  • Support second receptions (new prisoners on the fifth day in the site) alongside the registered nurse
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required

You will primarily be working within the primary care team, although may be required to carry out duties in the substance misuse team

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:

  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
  • Have experience within phlebotomy - this is highly desirable!
  • Have experience in a clinical care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting
  • Have clinical experience - venepuncture, ECGs etc
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
