Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) – Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
Job Overview
As a Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) setting, your role is to deliver basic patient care while supporting a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting patients with mobility (e.g., transferring to/from scans and radiology)
- Performing ECGs (if trained)
- Conducting venepuncture and cannulation (if trained)
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients
- Ensuring timely and efficient care within the department
Clear communication within the team is essential, given the fast-moving nature of the role.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Patient Care Support
- Record vital observations
- Assist with ECGs, venepuncture, and cannulation (where competent)
- Help transfer patients to/from radiology and scan departments
- Provide comfort measures (e.g., hot drinks, meal/snack support)

Clinical & Administrative Assistance
- Support nursing staff with clinical duties (under supervision)
- Assist with admissions and discharges
- Handle basic enquiries from patients, families, and colleagues

- Maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic working area
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols
