Healthcare Assistant – Theatre Department (Surgical Centre, Fortius Clinic - Marylebone)

Fortius Clinic is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join their Theatre Department in London’s Marylebone facility.

About the Role

As a vital member of the theatre care team, you will work under Registered Nurses/ODPs to deliver:

  • Safe, efficient, and compassionate peri-operative care
  • Patient preparation and recovery support
  • Maintenance of a clean, sterile theatre environment
  • Contribution to stock/revenue capture and cross-departmental communication

Your work will bridge multiple teams, including Registered Nurses, ODPs, Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Radiographers, Sterile Services, Recovery, and Administration.


Key Responsibilities

🩺 Patient Care & Peri-Operative Support

  • Implementation of agreed care plans, ensuring timely, person-centred care across:
    • Pre-operative (identity/consent checks, allergy confirmation, patient escorting)
    • Intra-operative (assisted positioning, dignity/privacy, thermal care)
    • Post-operative (recovery, emotional reassurance)
  • Support safe transfers using appropriate techniques; escalate mobility/skin integrity concerns
  • Provide compassionate, clear communication to reduce patient anxiety

🏥 Theatre Environment & Infection Prevention

  • Maintain strict IPC standards (hand hygiene, PPE, aseptic protocols, safe waste disposal)
  • Assure room turnaround via:
    • Safe waste removal
    • Restocking consumables
    • Checking equipment/surfaces for the next case
  • Follow sterile practice policies and assist scrub teams

💼 Clinical Tasks & Documentation

  • Perform delegated tasks (post-training/signed-off) e.g., basic observations, specimen handling
  • Adjust lighting/stock as a runner between sterile and non-sterile areas
  • Support recovery procedure by fetching supplies/fluids and confirming timely documentation in electronic systems

📊 Stock, Revenue Capture & Equipment

  • Manage consumable stock (expiry checks, reorders, damage reporting)
  • Support revenue capture via comprehensive recording of used items (implants/consumables)
  • Conduct basic equipment checks; immediately report/safeguard faulty devices

⚕️ Safety & Professional Conduct

  • Operate strictly within competency limits; escalate concerns promptly

  • Familiarise with worksheet guidance and conventions for successful deployment

Hours & Workings

  • Full-time, permanent position*
  • 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday with on-call weekend availability

Requirements

Essential

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare (or Care Certificate equivalent)
  • ≥ 2 years healthcare experience (clinical/organisational)
  • Team player with initiative, flexibility, and care instincts
  • Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)
  • Multi-tasking & strong organization^{*}
  • IT proficiency – experience in clinical systems, stock software, and learning platforms

Desirable (if applicable at joining/appointment)

  • Clinical competencies endorsed for theatre-specific tasks
  • Theatre maiden experience (schooling/preceptorship)
  • Orthopaedic/spinal condition/aesthetic/ years’ clinical knowledge
  • Advanced IT skills (data entry tools, charging software)

Tait and policy exemptions apply unless covering parameters already evidenced. Must want to progress in learning and reporting.
