Healthcare Cleaning Operative - Deep Clean Team
Deep Cleaning Team Member (Band 2) – 37.5 Hours Per Week Kendray Hospital, Barnsley
About the Role
I’m Ian, and I’ve worked in this service for 16 years—staying here is all about the people: our team and the individuals we support.
We’re a supportive, close-knit team who recognise and celebrate everyone’s unique strengths. If you’re passionate about making a meaningful difference, this could be the right place for you.
This role involves deep cleaning hospital premises across the trust, including hand and machine cleaning in wards, offices, and public spaces. Training will be provided, but experience is a bonus. Work involves travel using trust vehicles, so a full clean driving licence is essential.
Shifts are Monday to Friday, but will include some weekends and Bank Holidays. Standard shifts are 6AM–2PM, but late shifts (3PM–11PM) may be required, with flexibility critical.
📌 Important Note: At this time, we are unable to sponsor candidates for a UK skilled worker visa. We accept applications from those with right to work, or alternative visa routes.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Deep Cleaning Duties
- Perform mandatory domestic deep cleaning following National Cleaning Standards and Trust procedures.
- Operate mechanical equipment (scrubbing machines, high vacuums, steam cleaners) in line with manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct infection control cleans during outbreaks.
- Clean interior and exterior surfaces, including windows, carpets, and high-level dusting.
- Adhere to PPE protocols and ensure colour-coded equipment aligns with task requirements.
- Handle cleaning chemicals safely—COSHH compliance is mandatory. Report incidents to your supervisor.
- Optimise cleaning schedules in collaboration with ward/departmental staff, ensuring patient/staff safety.
- Remove and replace sheets/curtains as part of infection control measures.
- Assess and respond to spillages under daily spot-checking protocols.
- Manage domestic stock records and ensure monitored waste disposal (litter recycling, clinical waste streams).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
