NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

Due to the anticipated response to this post it may close before the closing date noted on the advert therefore once you start your application form please complete it immediately.

Do you have a passion for excellence in care? Do you want to work in a friendly and welcoming environment? Do you want to work in a culture where our patients and staff come first? If you want to be part of a high quality and safety focused team then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and driven Health Care Support Worker to join our team. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare Support Worker to apply for a Band 3 post within the General Outpatient Department at Gartnavel General Hospital. This is a part time post (30 hours) with various hours worked over Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the nursing and medical teams and deliver a high standard of quality care to patients. You will assist the Registered Nursing staff with various aspects of patient care and work unsupervised when required. The ability to plan and prioritise your workload efficiently and carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment is essential.

You should be flexible, forward thinking and able to work effectively within a changing and dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills / literacy / numeracy and effective interpersonal skills are also necessary. This busy department specialises in the outpatient care of patients including Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, ENT and Urology and will be able to support your learning and development in each area.

You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to patient-centred care, continuing professional development, an understanding of our service, and the specific needs of our patients (or a commitment to learn and develop these skills). You will demonstrate a willingness to participate in service progression and growth. The ability to work effectively in a team is essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
